I just saw that bartender/21 question. Can I ask what being a bartender is like? What experience did you have going into it? How'd you get the job?
A family friend owns a bar, and I'm really interested in working there. I'll take any info you'd like to throw at me! :)
well i’ll definitely say that you’re in a good position! bartending is alllllll about networking and knowing people. jobs are few and farrrr far far between unless you’ve got an in with someone. my bar is family owned so i had my foot in the door. i was only supposed to train there for 2 weeks and then go somewhere else, but the manager really loved me and asked me to stay [no, not a family member]. i’ve been there for almost 5 years. i had no formal training and normally this is preferred. don’t waste $600 on those stupid bartending classes. you won’t remember anything and no one will hire you. they’ll laugh at you if you have a “certificate”. its like wearing a big fat sticker that says “I’M GULLIBLE AND JUST GOT RIPPED OFF!” haha most places would rather train you THEIR way from scratch rather than trying to break bad habits. i was just thrown behind the bar and they said “okay do it”. it was terrifying. but i picked it up quickly and i think that’s the way to do it. dive head first. bartending can be fun… but i kind of hate it. the money is great where i work [some nights], but i don’t drink so i’m usually annoyed by everyone i serve. i dont like the people at my bar [the patrons. i love who i work with] but i make it work for like 10 hours a week. you’ll lose serious patience with people. and you won’t want to spend your down time in bars haha overall, it’s great for a short term thing [i say that like 5 years is short] but i mean, in college its perfect :) i dont recommend it for a career. good luck!

the episode with the female-Fabio and the “joe schmoe”.. and really? i mean.. he’s acting SO awkward! she passed on a way more than acceptable and dreamy guy (eric) for mike. i don’t get it. she’s like 25+ years older than him and they have nothing in common. C’MON! YOU’RE KILLIN ME SMALLS!

I've been following your blog for a while and wanted to thank you for the daily inspiration you bring into my life. You are amazing, girl! Now onto my question: Do you ever discuss your tattoos with Mike? Do you share ideas for new tattoos or do you decide on your own? Not that you should get his approval or anything, I mean it is your body! Just wondering if you listen to his opinion. Would you get a tattoo even if he really didn't like it?
hey thanks! and yes, i definitely do talk to him about them. i’ve asked him if he thought i was “too tattooed” or if there were places on my body he wouldn’t want me to tattoo. he’s not always 100% with my wants as far as tattoos go but he knows its my body and he lets me do what i want and promises to love me all the same. :) we def talk about them but at the end of the day i do what i want to :)
